FCS is a leading surfboard fin brand and they sponsor some of the world’s best professional surfers. The product team designed the K-3, a new signature fin for Kelly Slater, the biggest name on their pro team (and arguably in surfing full stop).

I worked with Kelly Slater to design the graphic to print onto the fin. Circles have been a recurring motif on his signature products and he wanted to continue this theme. The solution I developed was a bold graphic made up of 8 concentric rings. Each ring represented one of his World Title wins (he has since won even more). When viewed up close, the rings add detail to the design, and then merge together to create a solid doughnut shape when viewed at a distance from the shore.
